    Marketing Pish-Posh With a Yellow Cover1
I'm not into self-help books, I got this book as a gift (a rather obnoxious gift, at that).

But, since I had it, I decided to at least try to read it, keeping an open mind - I might always learn something new. Oh, I learned something alright.
I learned that con artists seem to really love the self-help industry. Not that self-help is in itself a con, but rather that it is a place they find fit for breeding their own little atrocities.
Instead of providing good and worthy advice, this inane piece goes the extra mile to promote what is a rather ridiculous and presumptous 'line-of-thought'. Right in the beginning the author will talk about his product and how you can't use it without paying royalties and whatnot - since when should a book that is, allegedly, designed to help people improve themselves, go out of his way to describe how the author fully intends to milk it (and thus, the readers) for every single penny he can get? Whom is that helping? Definetly not me, the reader.
I was disgusted by this, and yet, determined to give the book a chance, I kept reading a bit further... What did I get?
I got more and more ridiculous tips that do little to advise and seem to me as being harmful, because they don't seem to allow any breathing room for THINKING. Many tips seemed to be a way of creating brainwashed employees that will bend to the bosses every will, which is a diservice, not only to the worker but to the boss. Without discussion, with blind obedience, there is little room for innovation, and, specially given our current scenario (and all that we can learn from the theory of evolution), innovation is key to survival. Without the free exchange of ideas between all eschalons, it is harder and harder to breed the ideal pout-pourri of thoughts.
These 'advices', not only do they feel like rules that one must follow religiously, but they are absolutly pretentious. The author sells the Yes!Attitude as being an attitude a notch above positive attitude, marketing it and forcing it onto the reader as if it was the absolute truth.
I felt like I was being treated as the most gullible person in the planet.
"What is the difference between a postive attitude and a Yes!Attitude?" the author asked. Well, my reply to this question in that the latter is retarded. It does not instigate innovation, it instigates (reckless) obedience. It does not promote rational thinking, it promotes pleasing others (despite oneself).
Not only I found the content extremely distasteful, the editing of the book itself adds insult to injury. It uses complementary marketing techniques to try and sell the point of the book. Big letters, colored lines. Honestly though, what I got from it is the opposite of what they wanted, I guess. I felt like I was reading a children's book (probably a horror story, it seems), as if the author wrote an absolutly condescending piece.
I understand some might not agree, but in my honest view, this book is nothing but pish-posh, disguised by a yellow hardcover to do nothing but make the author rich.
You know what is the real difference between a positive attitude and a Yes!Attitude? The former doesn't require you to follow a marketing scam and treat a man as a religious deity. Not only that, but it is perfectly viable, requires no books nor other material, is free and available everywhere, anytime. I think I'd rather have that.

An Okay Book, Gitomer Has Better Titles3
In my humble opinion, while "Little Gold Book of Yes! Attitude" is okay to read, other Gitomer titles were more helpful.

While this title is more of a motivational hype with nothing new and earth-shattering, there are some good bits of information, specifically:

    1. Definition of a positive attitude - feel good about yourself so you may in turn feel good about serving others.
    2. Be careful of being exposed to negative news (I say a hearty "AMEN! to that thought!).
    3. 20 things that can help you have a positive attitude.
    4. Using humor to improve your attitude.
    5. Gitomer's philosophy (basically, give value to others first and help other people). I believe this was the highlight of the book - think of ways to help and serve others instead of being focused on just yourself.

Two main problems I have with the book - a bunch of motivational hype (nothing really new here) and the use of salty language throughout the book. While I do not mind Gitomer's upfront approach to writing, I believe he could have done without several words, some of which were of the 4-letter variety. I really believe that's unnecessary to get your point across and actually detracts from the point you are making. I'm sure other reviewers beg to differ with me and that's their privilege.

All in all, an okay book, but Gitomer has other titles that are much better (Sales Bible, Sales Connections, Sales Answers, etc.).

    Pablum for the mind1
This book was quite possibly the most vapid excuse for affirmations that I've ever read. I couldn't even make it through the entire book because it was filled with such trite and sophomoric feel-good nonsense, that I gave up on it before the halfway point.

The author, Jeffrey Gitomer, is so enamored with his "revelations" for a "Yes attitude" that he continually quotes himself as if this was knowledge from an expert or deity. In reality, this guy has all of the insight of Al Franken's Stuart Smalley character. For instance, get this gem: "Positive attitude comes from your ability to process thoughts in a positive way, regardless of the circumstance." Wow! What an insight!

If you're a person who likes big type in different colors on little pages and short chapters that you can breeze through and feel accomplishment in turning pages, then this is the book for you. However, if you're looking for a book with some depth and insight, save your money and pass this one by. Better yet, check it out from the library (as I did) and return it when you've had enough. Gitomer is just another in a long list of motivational gurus who serve up the same warmed-over and repackaged feel-good slop to the gullible masses.
