A trip down memory lane for the Cleveland TV star's many fans. The book reads like Big Chuck is right there talking to you over a couple of Manners' Big Boys. --Hudson Hub Times, December 14, 2008

A delightful mix of gossip about Cleveland goings-on . . . For those who recall the prank-prone author on the "Ghoulardi" show or on his late-night show that ran 40 years, it will remind them of laughs past.

    valuable lessons for the youth5
Big Chuck is a great anecdotal history of the early years of television. It is also a great account of how much you could get done if you weren't some dopey hippy or Beatnik. There are great windows into the amateur sports teams of the 1950s and 1960s, and stories about covering the Browns games in the 1960s.

    Disappointed2
I'd met Chuck once, and Hoolie, too, and at the time he seemed like a pretty nice guy. I didn't know it then, but apparently, he single-handedly saved Channel 8! If it wasn't for him, the station would have been a disaster! At least that's the egotistical self-opinion he puts forth in this poorly written and absolutely horribly edited and proof-read book. I'm now totally disenchanted with the whole Ghoulardi/Hoolihan & Big Chuck/Big Chuck-Little John phenomenon. Save your money and keep the memories you may have of the shows. This book will ruin them for you.

    A visit with a friend...Big Chuck4
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It is written with an easygoing style that makes you feel as if your sitting with Chuck in his living room as he reflects on his years as a pioneer in television. The stories that he shares about all of the famous and not-so-famous folk with whom he has worked and played are priceless. The only knock about the book would be that the editor missed several typos here and there, but that doesn't diminish the joy that I got reconnecting with so many memories that I have from growing up with Big Chuck, Ernie Anderson, Hoolie, Little John and all the rest. A must read for anyone else who was influenced by these guys or anyone who has an interest in some of the people and events from the early days of television. THANKS, Chuck, for sharing all of this with us!
